I have been waiting so long for this book. Octavian's Undoing was a work of art on its own. And though I fell head over heels for the eldest Maxwell brother, Ms. Phoenix laid the groundwork for what I knew would be an amazing story for Gideon. Snarky, sexy, with just a glimmer of something more...I couldn't wait for Gideon's turn.This has to be the most flawlessly written story that Morgana has put out thus far. I felt like I was watching a movie as I was reading the pages of this book. The imagery that we have all come to know and love from her stories was definitely there, but there was something different about this story.
Complicated and intense in every sense of the word, Gideon Maxwell has it all. Charm, looks, humor, sexiness, and a heart of gold...even for someone that hunts demons for a living. The beautiful love story that haunts him from his mate is one to leave you feeling broken and beaten. Oh, but don't worry - I have never known Ms. Phoenix to leave us heartbroken in the end.
Valkyrie Devereaux was introduced to us in Octavian's Undoing as well. A Harvester Warrior, calculating and manipulative...with something hiding underneath for our oh so scrumptious man in leather (....yes, I'm talking about Gideon). Morgana places Valkyrie into a compromising position when attacks on veiled creatures start....one that forces her to face possibly her one true downfall....yes, again, Gideon Maxwell.
I honestly can't give too much more away in this story, but let me say it's one that you want to start and finish all in one breath. But at the same time, I wasn't ready for this absolutely amazing story to end. Just enough heat to keep you awake, and a plot line and story that keeps you guessing until the end. And of course, Morgana, in all of her evil awesomeness leaves us wanting more.
Magnus's Defeat (Book #3) will not reach the shelves quick enough for me. I need to know what happens...and you will, too.

I have been dying to read this book because I LOVED Gideon in Octavian's book. I knew his book would be brilliant, and my god was it. I may have really liked book 1 but I simply adored this book. At the moment Gideon is definitely my favourite Maxwell brother. I have such a weakness for sarcastic, cocky guys. You will all fall in love with this golden-haired charmer who has the biggest heart.
Valkyrie was such an amazing character. I never really knew what to think of her but after getting her back-story my heart absolutely broke for her! She is a tough, loyal, kick-ass warrior but my god what she has gone through was gut-wrenching. Phoenix really knows how to bring on the tears.
The story itself is action packed and kept me on the edge of my seat. We got to learn so much more about Casters, Harvesters, veil creatures, etc. I also loved the little flashbacks we got of Gideon's and Valkyrie's past. It was so great to see how they first met.
Overall this was a fantastic, heartbreaking, nail-biting read with a scorching hot romance and an ending that will have you begging for more. Seriously, how could you end it like that?! My heart has been ripped out of my chest! I need Magnus' book NOW!!

I read the first installment in the "Sons of Judgment" series, and I enjoyed "Octavian's Undoing." In book two, I enjoyed Gideon and Valkyrie's story as well. At first it was demanding to get into liking Valkyrie's character, but as the story developed she became a more rounded, complex character, so did Gideon. They both needed each other to grow into their best selves. There were a few frustrating moments, though. I couldn't fathom why the Maxwell family were so lax with their region. I wanted to see serious strategizing about their enemies (and they do have them...) and training sessions to keep their skills up. But instead they too often acted like all is well (except Magnus). How about a few allies (spies???) from other regions and species (Riley could have received help with the change)? Don't get me wrong, I love the romantic connections between the characters, but I also want to see WHY they are caretakers of the North. What makes them worthy, other than their loyalty to each other? I think R. L. Mathewson's Pyte/Sentinel series creates a good balance between the romance and strength (Ephraim is such a devoted husband/father, I dare anyone to try to harm them). There are not soft words from him and his son Chris. lol). Anyway, I will read the other installments in the Judgment series. I'm so looking forward to Magnus's story. Who will be the woman to soften his heart???
Airicka Phoenix is def one of my favorite authors, and jumping back into the Son's of Judgement Series was phenomenal. There was so much action, drama, suspense. Every turn of the page had you wanting more, trying to figure out what's to come next. Valkyrie is very stubborn, head strong and set in her ways but we get to see another side of not only her but Gideon as well in Gideon's Promise. I loved the back and forth banter between these two. Gideon is hilarious and has you laughing so much, that is until it's not a laughing matter. I can't wait to get my hands on Magnus' Defeat and see where things are going next. You can't help but to get attached to the characters in this series, even the smaller characters, they each play a role and you get so swept up into their stories you can't help but to want more.
The book was good and I really enjoyed reading it. Even more than the first book... HOWEVER, if you are hoping to finish the series, you may never. It drives me crazy when authors don't finish trilogies. It's the only reason I rated this book a 3 rather than 5 stars is because the last book was suppose to finished last year and rather than finish the series, the author abandoned it and moved on... So who knows what happens!? This book is really good, but you'll be disappointed there is no book 3. I'm happy to revise the review if that changes.
